In energy performance initiatives, it\u2019s often challenging to <\/span>precisely quantify the impact<\/b> of an implemented action or, conversely, to measure a drift. Did the new heating system control actually pay off? And how can you prove it?<\/span><\/p>\n

To answer these questions, <\/span>Smart Impulse<\/b> has developed a new<\/span> time period comparison analysis feature<\/b> on its platform, available in the <\/span>Analyses<\/span><\/i> tab.<\/span><\/p>\n

A feature designed to highlight your actions in just two clicks<\/b><\/h3>\n

 <\/p>\n

Until now, tracking consumption month by month or week by week made it difficult to isolate the exact impact of an action or a drift related to a specific usage.<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

This new feature provides a simple tool to <\/span>quickly compare two comparable periods<\/b>:<\/span><\/p>\n

    \n
  • Impact period:<\/b> after the action has been implemented<\/span><\/li>\n
  • Reference period:<\/b> before the action. By default, this is automatically set to the same period the previous year, if available, or to the immediately preceding period. It can also be manually adjusted.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

     <\/p>\n

    Compare what\u2019s comparable<\/b><\/h3>\n

     <\/p>\n

    The comparison is based on a simple yet powerful logic:<\/span><\/p>\n

      \n
    1. Select the impacted period<\/b>: the time frame during which an action was applied (e.g., May).<\/span><\/li>\n
    2. Reference period<\/b> is proposed automatically (e.g., the same period last year).<\/span><\/li>\n
    3. Visualise the results<\/b>: graphs highlight the average power profiles at 10-minute intervals, weekly or daily, overall or by specific usage.<\/span><\/li>\n
    4. Measure the impact<\/b>: the difference between the before\/after periods is automatically calculated and intelligently extrapolated to a full year.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

      Note:<\/b> This analysis is especially useful for non-temperature-sensitive uses (lighting, IT, etc.) or for thermosensitive uses when comparing periods with similar climatic conditions (no weather correction applied at this stage).<\/span><\/p>\n

      Analyse in detail, usage by end-use<\/b><\/span><\/h3>\n

       <\/p>\n

      A major advantage of this feature is the ability to <\/span>zoom in on a specific usage<\/b> to isolate the effects of an action.<\/span><\/p>\n

       <\/p>\n

      For example:<\/b> you reduced heating to optimise consumption, but extended building operating hours at the same time. Overall building consumption may seem slightly higher\u2026<\/span><\/p>\n

       <\/p>\n

      Looking only at total consumption between the two periods could suggest a <\/span>2.6% deviation<\/b> due to extended hours.<\/span><\/p>\n

      However, by focusing on the relevant usage, heating in this case, you actually observe a <\/span>31.7% savings<\/b> for that usage. A real performance improvement that would have gone unnoticed without this targeted analysis.<\/span><\/p>\n

      This tool is particularly valuable for measuring the effectiveness of <\/span>specific actions<\/b>, even in complex contexts (changes in occupancy, unusual weather, evolving usage patterns).<\/span><\/p>\n

      Visualise impact at the right time and place<\/b><\/h3>\n

       <\/p>\n

      What makes this tool even more powerful is the ability to <\/span>see impact day by day<\/b> within the compared period. Actions do not always have a uniform effect:<\/span><\/p>\n

      Example:<\/b> In a school building, a control adjustment may only affect Wednesdays or weekends.<\/span><\/p>\n

      With period comparison, you can <\/span>detect localised effects<\/b>: an abnormal consumption spike on Wednesday night may reveal a misconfigured piece of equipment. All of this is visible at a glance in the graph, with <\/span>10-minute resolution<\/b>.<\/span><\/p>\n

      Beyond the typical week, you can also compare <\/span>typical days<\/b>: occupied days, unoccupied days, or a specific day like Wednesday.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

      This allows you to <\/span>focus the analysis on key moments<\/b>, isolating other days from the graph and impact calculations, resulting in <\/span>more precise diagnostics<\/b> and a better understanding of energy behavior day by day.<\/span><\/p>\n

      • Average savings<\/b>, weekly or daily (kWh\/day or kWh\/week)<\/span><\/li>\n
      • Annual equivalent<\/b> (kWh, \u20ac, and CO\u2082), automatically extrapolated based on the days analysed for typical day comparison<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

        Example:<\/b> If the building is occupied 5 days\/week and the comparison is made on unoccupied days, the daily kWh savings are extrapolated to <\/span>2 days\/week \u00d7 52 weeks = 104 days<\/b>.<\/span><\/p>\n
